Overall, I was able to expand upon a lot of my existing writing skills and I was able to practice writing pieces I didn’t have as much experience with such as research or argumentative works. I don’t think I particularly learned anything new in terms of my skills as a writer but practice, as always, allows my entire skill set and writing to improve and I definitely felt this happening since a lot of my writing skills were solidified over the course of the semester.
Some of the projects helped refresh me in different types of literary genres I wasn’t as familiar with such as literary narrative. I hadn’t done a literary narrative in quite a while and having it as our first major writing assignment increased my ability in doing more of those types of writing pieces. Additionally, the Museum Artifact Project helped cement research writing techniques so in the future I’m able to do just as well (if not better) for more assignments like those. And lastly, the This I Do Believe project helped me in solidifying my argumentative writing techniques since I had not done that type of assignment in a long time either.
However, I was able to learn a lot of tools to increase the effectiveness of my writing. I learned how to use a research database as well as use a website to present my work. The Adobe Portfolio taught me how to show off my writing multimodally and in the future, this will be paramount to my success because being a competent writer with relevant skills in other mediums makes me more advertisable to others. My future goals are dependent on base-level skills such as writing and knowing how to competently use it and having my foundation already set increases the chances of my success later on.
